Fortnite was an unexpected smash hit in 2017 that is still going strong today with nearly 5 million players. If you’ve ever played it before, you’ll know there are tons of and tons of customization options – poses, dances, gliders, emotes and especially skins. You might be trying to figure out how to get free Fortnite Skins because they’re paid for with V-Bucks, which might require a credit card to purchase.
Skins are the most expensive cosmetic item in Fortnite and there seems to be something for everybody. Epic Games is constantly partnering with other companies like Marvel and Capcom to offer skins of characters you love – and with the primary method of purchasing them being vbucks, it can get expensive quick!
Is there anyway to get Free Skins in Fortnite?
The answer isn’t that straightforward, but there are some free skins that might be available if you’re paying for certain online services already.
Grind Free V-Bucks on The Free Battle Pass
This is probably the most difficult and least recommended method for getting a free skin, but you can try it anyway. Each Fortnite Season, there are free Battle Pass rewards all players have access to. Although it will never include skins, it does include emotes, umbrellas and other loot, along with V-Bucks! Since most skins cost at least 1000 V-Bucks, it would be a better idea to purchase a Battle Pass after grinding free ones.
It might take you a while though! There are usually only 300 free V-Bucks available each Season in the free Battle Pass. Each Season is around 12 weeks long, so you’re looking at almost grinding for 9 months before getting a free Battle Pass! If you’re trying to find out how to get free fortnite skins, this method might not work best.
Get Free Fortnite Skins from Prime Gaming
For instance, if you have Twitch Prime (a premium membership you can get for free if you already have Amazon Prime), you can sometimes get Fortnite loot, including skins. As of September 2nd, 2021 Twitch Prime loot has nothing listed for Fortnite. They have been available in the past, though. Available loot changes on a monthly basis, so be sure to check back on the rewards page and see what’s available each month! They will also post updates on new rewards added on their Twitter account. If your parents already have Amazon Prime, let them know how to get free Fortnite skins for you this way.
Free Fortnite Skins through Playstation Plus
If you’re already signed up for Playstation Plus on PS4 or PS5, you’re probably already downloading free games each month – along with free loot for certain games. Fortnite skins are available to Playstation Plus users and can be redeemed in game. These skins are free and the rewards change every so often; make sure you download them when they’re available! Since you have to sign-up for Playstation Plus to play Fortnite online on PS4 or PS5, these skins are 100% free! At the very least, you could get a free Fortnite skin this way.
Epic Games Gives Away Free Fortnite Skins
There have been a few free skins gifted to users, whether you have the Battlepass or not, around Christmas time. Skins like Lt. Evergreen and Snowmando were gifted to players in 2019 during Christmas, and additional skins were free for users around Christmas in 2020. These should be available to Fortnite players on all platforms – it doesn’t matter if you’re playing on Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or PC.
You’ll be able to redeem these skins when you login to the game, they are usually prompted as rewards and are added to your account and locker automatically. Just be sure to play Fortnite around the holidays, and you should be able to get these! Epic Games will also periodically include other free loot like umbrellas and emotes around the holidays, so keep an eye out for those as well.
Buy Your First BattlePass – and Each Subsequent BattlePass For Free
One method that might work best for players that can’t afford to buy a bunch of skins or Battle Passes is to just buy an initial Battle Pass and grind and save all of the V-Bucks rewards. Battle Passes are usually 950 V-Bucks, and that amount can easily be stashed away from reaching level 100 on any Pass. In fact, you can normally net around 1500 V-Bucks by reaching level 100
By purchasing your initial Battle Pass and leveling up through-out the season, you can really stack V-Bucks and buy each sequential Battle Pass. Lots of skins are unlocked on each Pass, and you might actually have enough leftover to buy any skins you might want in the store! But, be aware that it will cost you $7.99 for that first Battle Pass.
Get Skins and V-Bucks each month by Joining The Fortnite Crew
Fortnite Crew is a newer offering from Epic Games and it costs $12 USD per month. With that paid subscription, you’ll get a bunch of V-Bucks (1000 of them) and exclusive Skins and loot you can’t find anywhere else! This might be a better investment than just buying the Battle Pass for some players, especially if you see a skin you really want. It’s hard to miss, a prompt for Fortnite Crew is shown every time you login, so you might be aware of it already.
Free Fortnite Skins Available via Glitches
There have been accidental releases of Fortnite Skins before, but it’s pretty rare. There are multiple YouTube videos out there as well claiming you can redeem free skins through an exploit or glitch in Fortnite. From the dozen or so videos I saw that claimed this, most were outdated and no longer working. If you do try to track down any free skins through a glitch, I would take a look at the comments on YouTube and if other players are having any success.
